Jody's First W/C Lesson

Jody expressed a desire to learn to paint watercolor. We squeezed in a few lessons while she was here. She raised miniature horses and drew here stallion with incredible natural ability. She said she had learned to draw in high school. I took her to the next level.

Jody began with the outer edges and worked inside last. I think she did a good job on the mane of the horse painting different nuances of the colors within it. She tried to leave some white in each shape which is important  in watercolor.

Next Jody painted the background a neutral gray-blue to recede and contrast with the horse.

The body and head followed. She had to decide what was the focal point and make it stand out through contrast of value.

I know Jody will be glad to get home on Thursday and see her little Dragonfly.
He helped pay for her trip to America by siring two foals which she sold. While Jody was here she had a lot of time to work creating a website for her horse business. We didn't go out a lot due to my back problems and Enno being so tired a lot of the time. Jody found out what it is like living with two older people in their late 60's and 70's. But I think she had a good time. She waanted to rest, too.

Don't you think she did an excellent job on her first watercolor?
Praises for Jody!

  1. This is just so beautiful! I'm sure Jody's gonna paint like like a "big one" (we say so in Germany- means absolute great!)

  3. Thank you for your comments. Jody is 25 and drew the horse freehand. She drew threee others which dhe didn't have enough time to paint.

San Antonio was fun but I didn't have the energy to walk I used to have. My back and hips hurt now. Poor Jody. One day she took the tram after we all spent the morning at the Mexican Market, to the Alamo Mall and walked all the way back to the hotel through the River Walk, Carrying a heavy back pack. But she is young and strong. The Tumbleweeds are rolling along slowly. xo Jenny
